History
Since 1975 Hugh Davies, trading as Davies Antiques has been the proprietor
of shops in Kensington Church Street London. He has been fortunate in dealing
with one of the world's luxury commodities, Meissen porcelain, which has been
the pre-eminent European porcelain manufacturer for three centuries.
An Acknowledged Expert on Meissen Porcelain
He has participated in the June Olympia Fair of the late 1970's and then
in the early 1980's he was one of the inaugural exhibitors at the International
Ceramics Fair held at the Dorchester Hotel Park Lane. However, being essentially
a one-man band he found Fairs too demanding with his time. Over the last quarter
of a century he has acquired an international clientele and his love and passion
for Meissen porcelain has made him an expert in this field.
In 1995 Davies Antiques held a loan exhibition of figures and animals from
the Meissen Museum. The period covered was 1875-1925 and was augmented with
a lecture by Dr. Hans Sonntag, director of the Meissen Museum. In 1997 he
published and co-wrote Meissen Porcelain Dogs 1875-1925, with
                Dr. Sonntag.
Without the constraints of the shop at 40 Kensington Church Street he will
be able to give his private and trade customers a much more personal service.
He also hopes to publish other books on antique Meissen porcelain covering the years
1875-1938, a period, which he feels, is under researched and consequently
not yet fully appreciated by collectors. He is optimistic that his web site
will introduce some of these rare pieces to a larger audience as well as showing
a full range of items from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
